The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) provides a venue for faculty members and students in Material science and engineering to interact with the industry and actively participate in various collaborative projects. CAM is attracting leading international researchers and scholars in the four essential sub-specialties of Materials Science and Engineering: processing/fabrication, structure, properties and applications. The Center continues to expand its research profile both nationally and internationally through the establishment of a variety of research programs. In order to facilitate this type of high profile research, its facilities are constantly upgraded with the installation of major new equipment across many areas materials research. With top-notch researchers and well-equipped laboratories, the Center offers high-level expertise to the local oil and gas and water treatment industries as well as the tertiary technical education sector in Qatar.
Duties & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
CAM invites applicants for a Research Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor position in the area of nondestructive testing (NDT) starting from Fall 2022.
The successful candidate should have an established research record in the area of nondestructive testing, NDT Inspection for steel and concrete, metallurgy, corrosion, material testing, technical and factual reporting. Research record related to magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and ultrasonic testing (UT) methods for detection of corrosion & laminations and welding inspection of steel is highly desirable. The successful candidate should have NDT certification of all three levels and is expected to provide training to industry in Qatar to solve their operational problems and have experience in supervision and coordination for NDT activities.
The successful candidate must be willing to and have demonstrated experience to help create and advance innovative ideas that cross-disciplinary lines and impact education and research in nondestructive testing and NDT Inspection. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering/Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline with 4-6 years of research experience and/or industrial exposure. The candidate should be able to establish and maintain an independent and competitively funded creative research program and liaison with industry. The CAM, Qatar University is seeking dynamic individuals with outstanding technical expertise and track records of scholarly accomplishments who, given the right opportunity and resources, have the ability and motivation to become leaders or further enhance their stature in their research fields.
Competencies:
1. Excellent record of scholarly activities and research strengths in area of nondestructive testing for oil and gas industry, NDT Inspection evidenced by appropriate bibliometric parameters in high-ranking journals.
2. Having NDT Level III certification is a plus.
3. Strong demonstrated problem-solving and resolution skills.
4. Excellent organizational ability and strong interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to work within a diverse, multicultural environment.
6. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
7. Attract research funds and develop scholarly endeavors.
8. Advise undergraduate and graduate students and be involved effectively in consulting, service duties, committee work.
9. A pre-existing and growing international research network helpful for teamwork is expected from a successful applicant. The ability to skillfully conduct interdisciplinary research with colleagues from other departments of the university will be seen as a plus.
