The ‘Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development (SIEED)’ has been established in Fall 2021 in the QU President Office to initiate, manage, execute, and/or coordinate developments of the President Office innovation and transformation cross-strategies and initiatives (e.g. Innovation & Entrepreneurship strategy, Digital Transformation Strategy, etc.) among other strategic innovation and transformation duties and functions. The SIEED Office is also particularly focused on design, management, and execution on the evolution of holistic and mature ‘QU Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development Ecosystem’ across all QU sectors and emerging companies and ventures in integrated manner with the National Innovation & Economic Development ecosystem. This particular focus is in the process of realizing QU new vision aiming at positioning Qatar University as a ‘ .. Catalyst for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of Qatar’ and is closely integrating with state transformation efforts into Innovation & Knowledge Based Economy (iKBE) as envisioned in Qatar National Vision 2030, the National Development Strategies, and Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) 2030 Strategy.
Duties & Responsibilities
1.Work closely with the office leadership to ensures the success of the University’s commitment to supporting economic development by facilitating and ensuring maximization of QU startups and spinouts development out of the incubation programs and activities
2.Oversee and manage of marketing, outreach to, screening and intake of, and participation by diverse set of teams and startups (internally and externally to QU) in business incubator programs, activities, and networking events
3.Design, develop, implement, integrate and manage end to end life cycle of business incubation programs and activities from pre-incubation into incubation and liaise with key entities and stakeholders in matters related post-incubation, acceleration, and scaling-up
4.Monitor and promote business or startups growth and funds raising of teams and startups participating in business incubation programs by providing services for participants that connect them to academic, professional services, investors, and other resources as appropriate
5.Create and maintain networks of entrepreneurs, mentors, professionals, funders, university academics, and B2B contacts, and facilitate their strategic interaction with participating teams and startups in the incubation programs and activities
6.Evaluates and seek potential funding sources through program revenue, grants, donors, etc.
7.Conducts business counseling on an individual basis with teams, startups, academics, tenants and clients participating in the incubation programs and activities
8.Manages necessary and allocated funds by planning and developing the incubator budget.
9.Develop periodic assessment procedures to evaluate incubation programs and activities, and devise continuous improvements
10.Assist in development and delivery of relevant curricular components and digital learning modules for integration in QU education ecosystem Supervise or co-supervise entrepreneurial senior design graduation projects, or courses projects of high potential for business incubation and commercialization
11.Conduct periodic reviews of trends and innovations in incubation programs and activities, and recommend new models and approaches for implementation
12.Assist in developing relevant research proposals relevant to innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development ecosystem acceleration internally in QU or externally on the national ecosystem
13.Develop marketing materials, reports, research papers and presentations in innovation and entrepreneurship relevant to areas of scope of duties
14.Lead or help in organization of relevant national and international innovation and entrepreneurship events in collaboration with other office members and key stakeholders internally and externally
15.Assist the Office Director, Associate Directors, and Senior Strategic Advisors in day to day operations related to innovation, entrepreneurship, and incubation
16.Any other duties as assigned by direct line manager.
